NorthRenew Energy’s Mesquite Sky Wind Project commences construction

Jan 16, 2021

Becket, MA – NorthRenew Energy (“NorthRenew”) announced today that Clearway Energy Group (“Clearway”) achieved construction commencement on the Mesquite Sky Wind Project, f/k/a Baird North Wind Project (“Mesquite Sky”), initially developed by NorthRenew and sold to Clearway in 2019. Following the sale in 2019, NorthRenew continued to assist Clearway with final development and pre-construction services.

Mesquite Sky, located in Callahan County, Texas, represents a multi hundred million dollar investment and is expected to have 345MW of nameplate capacity comprised of 69 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines. Upon commencing operations in late 2021, Mesquite Sky will serve the long-term sustainable power needs of several major corporate manufacturing corporations and will make its contribution to increasing the environmental sustainability of Texas, US, and world economies.  Mesquite Sky will create many new jobs and bring substantial streams of new income to the local landowners, businesses, and municipalities during both its construction and operation phases.  A lender group comprising marquee global financing institutions led the Project’s $427 million construction debt financing.

Garth Klimchuk, NorthRenew’s Co-Founder and Managing Partner, stated: “We are honored to have worked with such a distinguished investor and developer as Clearway to bring this project to fruition and look forward to completing more projects with them.”

“We are pleased to have partnered with NorthRenew on this important project for Callahan County.  Clearway was excited to bring its breadth of experience to complete development activities and enhance Mesquites Sky’s design which helped attract offtake agreements from household brands.  We look forward to continuing to work with NorthRenew on future opportunities,” said John Woody, VP of Business Development at Clearway Energy Group.
